Resúmen

Vulnerable Socio-Eco-tones is a research project that aims to investigate territorial phenomena related to the dimensions of social and environmental vulnerability, highlighting the relationships between these two dimensions and the implications for urban-architectural practice. The research focuses on the geographic area of the central border between Mexico and the US, where socio-environmental problems are particularly complex and are worsening as a result of the current health, political and climate crises.

Vulnerable Socio-Eco-tones es un proyecto de investigación que tiene como objetivo investigar los fenómenos territoriales relacionados con las dimensiones de la vulnerabilidad social y ambiental, destacando las relaciones entre estas dos dimensiones y las implicaciones para la práctica urbano-arquitectónica. La investigación se enfoca en el área geográfica de la frontera central entre México y EE.UU., donde los problemas socio ambientales son particularmente complejos y están empeorando a raíz de las actuales crisis sanitaria, política y climática.

If the close relationship between social and environmental problems is very noticeable, understanding what happens in complex contexts affected by major crises is extremely urgent. A context such as the Ciudad Juárez - El Paso metropolitan area is an excellent study context, which presents worrying social and environmental vulnerabilities. The current crises have significantly worsened an already difficult situation, drastically increasing inequalities between the two states, regions, cities and social groups. For this reason, the Vulnerable Socio-Ecotones project wants to apply knowledge and methodology generated in previous projects in this region, coordinating an interdisciplinary team and organizing activities that work in the physical and digital spheres.

Si la estrecha relación entre problemas sociales y ambientales es muy notoria, entender que sucede en contextos complejos, afectados por importantes crisis es extremamente urgente. Un contexto como el área metropolitana de Ciudad Juárez - El Paso es un excelente contexto de estudio, que presenta vulnerabilidades sociales y ambientales preocupantes. Las crisis actuales han empeorado sensiblemente una situación ya difícil, aumentado drásticamente las desigualdades entre los dos estados, las regiones, las ciudades y los grupos sociales. Por esto, el proyecto Vulnerable Socio-Ecotones quiere aplicar en esta región conocimiento y metodología generados en proyectos anteriores, coordinando un equipo interdisciplinario y organizando actividades que trabajen la esfera física y digital.

Impact

Impacto

The expected results refer both to the dissemination and scientific production and to the impacts on the communities. Beyond scientific dissemination and products (presented in its section), Vulnerable Socio-Ecotones wants to generate an effective impact in the communities where the research will be carried out. In particular, based on the theoretical results that will be obtained, the objective is to generate an impact in the social and environmental spheres, initiating activities with strategic partners that will help organize the workshops. The involvement of the "Entrepreneurship" of the Tecnológico de Monterrey (Chihuahua) has the purpose of advising the research group, communities and students to analyze the most appropriate activities.

Los resultados esperados se refieren tanto a la difusión y producción científicas como a los impactos en las comunidades. Más allá de la difusión científica y de los productos (presentadas en su apartado), Vulnerable Socio-Ecotones quiere generar un impacto efectivo en las comunidades donde se llevará a cabo la investigación. En particular, con base en los resultados teóricos que se obtendrán, el objetivo es generar un impacto en el ámbito social y ambiental, iniciando actividades con socios estratégicos que ayudarán a organizar los talleres. El involucramiento del “Emprendimiento” del Tecnológico de Monterrey (Chihuahua) tiene el propósito de asesorar al grupo de investigación, comunidades y estudiantes para analizar las actividades más oportunas.
